At Coutumes, we like to highlight those who bring the brand to life every day. Artists, friends, collaborators, and personalities close to our universe. People who share a certain sensitivity to materials, to the passing of time, and to objects that carry meaning.
Nicolas Farade is one of those discreet yet essential presences. A multidisciplinary artist, he works with drawing, photography, and graphic design. A graduate in Visual Arts and New Media from Paris VIII University, his work explores everyday life and invites inner journeys. Since the very beginning, Nicolas has also been part of the Coutumes team. He regularly welcomes you in our Marais boutique, at 50 rue des Francs Bourgeois in Paris.
A practice centered on time and perception.
“My work, mainly visual and plastic, questions our perception of time, of the future and the present. It raises the question of the existence of other worlds and of the nature of the universe, which we are only beginning to understand in provisional ways, and which, like a fragment of utopia, extends beyond the limits of our imagination.”
In his pictorial practice, Nicolas delicately explores notions of identity and isolation. His visual language moves between minimal use of color, refined compositions, and ultra-geometric forms. A research that naturally dialogues with kinetic art. From this need for spiritual awakening emerges Présence, a silhouette he introduces in a first edition. This figure embodies a form of consciousness. A daily, almost visceral form of introspection.
Productive yet discreet, Nicolas seeks sincerity and inner calm above all. He keeps his distance from false values and follows a more essential path.
“Delicacy lies in being able to remain oneself at all times. That is where the real complexity lies.”
Meditation, creation, tranquility and freedom shape this solitary balance. In his monochrome works, Nicolas enjoys blurring the lines and invites the viewer to look beyond what first appears obvious. What may seem simple at first glance often reveals a deeper reading.
Nicolas’s work suggests a form of presence to oneself, but also to one’s environment. A way of observing, slowing down, and allowing the mind to unfold without constraint. Creativity, intuition, and concentration then emerge naturally.
His work becomes an invitation to commune with oneself. A solitary and experimental journey through consciousness, somewhere between two paths.
