Italian workshops, in the heart of Tuscany

Most of our jewelry is made in Tuscany, near Arezzo. In this family-run workshop, 925 silver and brass are shaped by hand.

The atmosphere is distinctive: the steady sound of rolling mills, the smell of heated metal, the light reflecting off timeworn workbenches. Nothing here is automated. Each piece passes through the hands of artisans who straighten, solder, and polish. This closeness to the material is what gives each piece its character. Our scarves and shawls are also handmade in Italy, in specialized workshops with meticulous craftsmanship.

We visit the workshop regularly. Every time we arrive, we are welcomed by the same warm, generous team, people who speak about their craft with pride and precision. Conversations flow around a workbench, between trays of half-finished chains and tools polished by time. We talk about materials, finishes, proportions, and tiny details that make a big difference.

There is something humbling about witnessing this level of craftsmanship. The gestures are patient and exacting. A file passes, a torch flares, a clasp takes shape. You understand that the beauty of a piece does not come from perfection, but from care, from the attention and repetition of a hand that knows.

And every visit has its lighter moments. A late-morning espresso, lunch under the sun, a shared pizza, a glass of red wine, and of course, the ritual tiramisu before heading back to the workshop. These trips remind us that Italy is not only about craft, but about a way of living, generous, precise, and full of joy. That spirit is part of what we bring back to Coutumes. A balance between technique and warmth, detail and spontaneity, rigor and pleasure.
